King Henry VIII
Gruber 125a Henry VIII. Assertion of Seven Sacraments. Naples; Nicolaus Naso, 1728 (reprint of 1522). Henry VIII attacked Luther's The Babylonian Captivity of the Church, perhaps with the help of Bishop John Fisher. For this deed Henry VIII was named Defender of the Faith, a title retained by the monarchs of England until today. Luther's reply to Henry VIII in 1522 is Gruber 157. Cf. 136. Both are listed under Luther 1521-1529.
The Gruber Collection was assembled by L. Franklin Gruber, President of Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary, Maywood, Illinois.
