As territories turned Lutheran, they attempted to reorder their worship and church life according to evangelical principles. Between 1523 and 1555 135 church orders were produced. Bugenhagen was Luther's confidant and personal confessor, promoter of education, and a reformer of many parts of northern Germany and Denmark.
